evaluation

Introduction
My garment is designed around reclaim and recycles.  The garment is made from recycling plastic bags and old calico bags; I wanted to create an abstract feel and a layered texture. I have produced two garments both made from old bag and with a eyelet fastening.

Evaluation
For my reclaim and recycle project I created two garments based on plastic bags and recycling different types of materials. The garment is size adjustable due to the eyelet fastening on the back, the tops are easy to wear due to their strapless design.

My inspiration for this project was my obsessive passion for keeping hold of plastic bag and re-using them, I decided to use them in my project. My influence that helped me create my garment was a rage of garment created by Jeremy Scott, he created a rage of garments made from plastic bags & bin bags.

I did a various amount of research within my project about designer and artists that use recycled material in their work and have made an amazing garment and piece of art from different types of recycled materials. I looked at designers such as Jeremy Scott, Stefanie Nieuwenhuuys and Noemie Dodge. I looked at artists such as Jane Perkins, Derek Gores and Nick Gentry. I found all these designers and artists gave me inspiration that influenced my garment.

In this project I did a few samples with plastic bags:

·         Bow sample
·         Weave sample
·         Platte
·         Scratching the fabric with scissors
When designing this garment I thought it would have been easier to create, I realised that here was a few problems with the creation. I decided to layer the bags onto the top to give texture and give the tops shape.  During the creation on my garments I found the sewing of the plastic bags onto the calico bag very difficult as there was no friction between the plastic bag and the calico bag, this made the plastic slipped from side to side and made it difficult to sew the plastic bag into a straight line.

In this project I created a fashion shoot, my model had an edgy look and was perfect for my project as this is an usual project. The setting of my photo shoot was in front of a bin, this was a statement to show that people don’t take the time to recycle plastic bags because they don’t think that plastic bags will hurt the environment. My model stood in front of the bin, on the bin and she clenched a can in her hand, this is a symbol of power within recycling.

After the garment was finished I was pleased with the final creations, the garments looked exactly like I had imagined even though there was a few technical problems during the creation stage.  I enjoyed the fact that I have worked with a different type of material  and style that I have not used in previous projects. I am pleased with my garments; I created a fashion shoot based around recycling, I styled my models make-up, hair and clothing.

step-by-step of my garmets

The base of my garments for my recycled project is calico bags, I will unpick down the side of the bag and take off the straps.

After I unpicked the bag I placed it onto a manikin and put darts down the front starting from the breast to bottom of the bag.
I created a back fastening on both on the tops, so that the tops have a fully ajustable crisscross lace up, I measured 3cm for the eyelets.

I pearced a hole where I measure the 3 cm and put the eyelet threw the hole and used the clamp to seal the eyelet
